The Special Education Department at Colonial Forge High
School provides services for students with various disabilities. We offer
self-contained as well as inclusion programming as defined by a student's
individual education plan. We serve the following disabilities in our
building: specific learning disabilities, mild mental retardation, moderate
mental retardation, emotional disturbance, hearing impairment, and other
health impairment.
Through our Child Study Referral process, we offer evaluations for
triennials of current special education students. Also, through Child Study,
we offer teachers and parents, a team of professionals who can help with
students who are having difficulties in school. We can provide advice for
modifications and accommodations within the classroom setting that may
promote improved success.
Stafford County Public Schools provide full educational opportunities at
no charge for children with disabilities, ages two through twenty-one.
Programs are offered to students who have been assessed in accordance with
state and federal law and found to have one of the following disabilities:
autism, deafness, deaf-blindness, developmental delay, hearing impairment,
mental retardation, multiple disabilities, orthopedic impairment, other
health impairment, emotional disturbance, severe and profound disability,
specific learning disability, speech or language impairment, traumatic brain
injury, and visual impairment.
Parents who suspect that their child has a disability affecting learning
should contact the school principal or the office of special education.
Information will be provided about the assessment procedures and
determination of eligibility. An excellent source of information about
matters pertaining to all aspects of special education is the Parent
Resource Center which is staffed by a special educator and a parent
coordinator.
